What to expect

Currency: Mexican Peso

Language: Spanish. English is commonly spoken, especially in the more touristic areas.

Credit Cards & ATMs: Many Mexican shops, restaurants, and hotels accept credit cards, especially in areas that are often visited by tourists. On islands such as Isla Mujeres and Isla Holbox, there are only a couple of ATMs and they are unpredictable. if you are visiting here, make sure that you have enough cash to last your visit.

Transport: If you want to travel around, I would highly recommend hiring a car from Cancun airport. Public transport is very reliable, and there are many bikes and scooters to rent in Tulum.

The Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Mexico depends on your interests, activities and final destination. Generally, Mexico’s climate varies, and it can be divided into three main seasons:

  1. Dry Season (Late November to April): This is typically the best time to visit many parts of Mexico. The weather is generally dry and pleasant during these months. Beach destinations, like Cancún and the Riviera Maya, are popular during the dry season. Mexico City and other inland areas also experience mild temperatures during this time.
  2. Rainy Season (May to mid-November): This season is characterised by higher temperatures and increased humidity. While there can be heavy rainfall, especially in the afternoons, this period also brings lush landscapes and vibrant greenery. The Yucatán Peninsula and parts of the Pacific Coast can experience more intense rainfall during this season.
  3. Hurricane Season (June to November): The eastern and southern coastal areas, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, are more susceptible to hurricanes during this period. While not every part of Mexico is affected, it’s essential to be aware of weather forecasts if you plan to visit these regions.
