Kogel Bay has become increasingly popular over the last number of years. When we visited, it was a relatively unknown location. However since more people are visiting, there is now usually a lifeguard on duty and toilets available, but parking is now quite limited. Click here for Kogel Bay Location.
Accessing the cave at Kogel Bay involves a bit of exploration, and it’s important to note that conditions may change. Here are general guidelines, but I recommend staying vigilant and keeping on eye on the weather forecast:

When you arrive, park your car and head down the steps to the beach. I would recommend wearing good shoes for this.
Location of the Cave: The cave at Kogel Bay is situated on the eastern side of the beach.
Tide Considerations: The cave is only accessible during low tide, so it’s crucial to plan your visit accordingly. To get to the cave, you must walk along the beach, which will be impossible and very unsafe during high tide. The best time visit, is when the tide is going out. If you arrive to the cave during low tide and stay too long, high tide will make it impossible for you to return making for an extremely dangerous situation. Plan accordingly and give yourself lots of time!
Access from the Beach: To access the cave, you start from the beach. Walk towards the eastern end of the beach (to your right if looking out to the sea). The walk is about 5-10 minutes and is quite rocky in places. Keep an eye on the rock formations to your right along the coastline. Look for the entrance to the cave, which may not be immediately visible.
Baboons: While we never came across any baboons, locals say that they do hang around Kogel Bay. You have been warned- what’s yours is theirs, they will try to take your things!
Always prioritise safety and be aware of the natural conditions of the area. Keep in mind that access to sea caves can be influenced by factors such as weather, tides, and erosion, so it’s essential to exercise caution and make informed decisions when exploring.
